Genuine excitement

It'll be no news to my regular readers that I like bold patterns and prints on my clothing. I look at clothes allllll the time (being fat but not dowdy is hard work.... it's like having a 2nd job!) and when I saw the new Graduate Collection at George online I lost my shit big time!

For me these collections can be hit & miss, (often down to personal taste) and sometimes I love them but the cut or fabric just won't work on my big ol' ass! If they're done in conjunction with the G21 range they're not available in a size 22+ anyway, which was sadly the case with the last collection (above) by Clare Acton. The dresses would have been a disaster on me, but I wanted the tops!
I'm always happy when there's something in the graduate collection that I like and comes in my size (like the cardi I got ages ago!) but this time round I liked every piece.... believe me it has never happened before!

Bright colours, Geometric prints, knitted....... AND A MAXI?! Oh my goodness, was this collection made specially for me?! I would wear pretty much all of these pieces, and the prices (as always) are so extremely low that there was no way I was going to resist those dresses!
Having looked at Caitlin's website, I think that the best thing about this collection is how true they've been to her style. I know big companies have to create affordable, 'wearable' items that they think will sell (so they don't like to go too far out-there in terms of cut and shape) but they haven't watered it down to the point where you wouldn't know she designed it. Plaudits must be given!

On to the reviews! As much as I like the jumpers in this collection (particularly the yellow one!) I just don't wear thick jumpers very often, so I resisted. I ordered the midi dress and the maxi to try...... obviously!
First up we have the maxi. Lorna from The Ginger Peardrop said at Plus London that clearly maxi dresses were my thing and I was like 'nahhhh.... it's just a coincidence that both times we've met I've been in a maxi'. You know what though, they really are becoming my thing. I keep choosing maxi's for events because I think they look so striking, and my collection of in-your-face maxi's has increased hugely, so this one feels very 'me'. Becky from Does My Blog Make Me Look Fat tweeted a link to the dress after I'd ordered it saying 'I can totally see Plump Parsnip rocking this'... I'm clearly the fatshion blogger who always wears maxi's! Oh joy, it is fabulous!

I went for the size 24, because although this is stretchy, the straight lines in the pattern were bound to get caught on all my lumpy bits, and in order to get a more casual look (rather than bodycon) I wanted the biggest size. LOVE!

It's got a lot of give in the fabric and the pattern / colours are delicious! The only thing I'm not 100% about is the length. I'd like it to a bit a tad longer, but of course I'm a touch taller than average so I often find maxi's to be a bit short. No matter, It still works, and I love the sport-lux feel that the horizontal stripes at the bottom of the hem and sleeves brings. A sporty maxi? Fan-fucking-tastic!
When I ordered the midi they only had it up to a size 20, but I loved it so much that I just threw caution to the wind and got the 20!
The good news is that it's super stretchy thanks to the knitted fabric so it's totally wearable, the bad news is that (as with all knitwear) the more it stretches outwards the shorter it gets!
The 20 is very bodycon on me so it shows up my double belly but that's not the end of the world, I love love love the pattern and colour, but it's too short for my liking. I was extremely happy to find today that the size 22 & 24 were back in stock, so I've ordered the 24, which I imagine will be knee length on me rather than midi, but that's totally fine, they often are!
Overall I think these dresses are fantastic. My main gripe with them is that the fabric is a bit itchy, but I'm sure that using a softer knit would have increased the price, and frankly, a midi for £18 and a maxi for £20 is spectacular value for such interesting pieces! See the collection here. Well done George & Caitlin, you SMASHED it! This has really whet my appetite for Evans forthcoming graduate collaborations (Cut for Evans) that are coming out next month, they certainly won't match Georges outstanding price point, but lets hope they can match them in design.

ootd's

I'm so behind with my ootd's on here! I've been wearing some summer faves recently, so I'm just chucking it all together on a night when it's not too hot to sit at my computer! There may be mosquitoes out there, but I do love having loads of big trees to look at!

Monday (Last week!)
This is a dress I break out when it gets hot. I love it! It's Anna Scholz and is one of the dresses I got with my £100 winnings from her blogs customer competition.
Close up you can see the print is made up of scarab beetles. And the colours! It's too cool for school frankly!

For Lunch we headed out to Grosvenor Square, where they are hosting 'summer in the square'.
There's free music and games and chill out zones. It's a lovely little sanctuary right in central London! It's on until the end of this week, so if you work round here go and get yourself an icecream and enjoy a bit of opera! Summer in the Square.

Dress - Anna Scholz Black label
Cardi - Primark
Flip flops - Ipanema

Tuesday
I totally forgot to take a picture of me in my outfit, but I wore my lovely George Jumpsuit (with a lightweight blazer from new look. I looked mighty smart, honest!

Wednesday
Busy busy busy! Boiling hot day, so I opted for a super lightweight Asos Curve classic. It's the first dress I ever bought from Curve, and also therefore the first to be quite different from the pictures! Luckily in this case I'd been worried that the dress would be too short for me (it was well above the knee on the model!) but it's actually a midi, and I LOVE IT!
Me and my work mates went for some cider festival action after work, only to discover the pub with all the flyers / posters didn't actually have ANY of the advertised ciders (name and shame, BARLEY MOW!). Thats why we stumbled over this super cute raised garden...
I've worked in this area for 7 years, and I never knew about Brown Heart Gardens! Quite fascinating. I also tried the new blackberry & elderflower pimms... tastes like ice pops!
I left the ladies to meet the boyf in Wimbledon to eat lush food (at Bills - the prawn cocktail.... ummmmm!) and then watch Monsters University. I enjoyed it, the boyfriend was left a bit cold by it - but Monsters Inc is his favourite movie so it was never going to live up to the original was it?! Anyway, I was particularly taken with Wimbledons Morrisons. Awesome sauce!
Dress - Asos Curve
Flip flops - Ipanema

Thursday
Casual and loose.... Tired. An early night followed!

T-shirt - Asos Curve (available here in white)
Trousers - Dorothy Perkins

Friday
So then, I got this dress in the 24 remember? I didn't need to size up because it's made of a sort of jersey material, not a 'silky fabric' as Advertised! I started the day like this....
.... It wasn't long before I discarded the cardi thanks to the super hot weather! Nice dress huh? It's sort of an a-line swing dress (the description makes more sense if you read the standard sized version!)
When I left work for a meeting I pulled it in at the waist with the cardi. Love this dress like this! Sadly it's now sold out.

Dress - Asos Curve
Cardi - primark
Sandals - Ipanema

Saturday
The Lambeth Country show (a free festival put on by the council in the park next to me) was so much fun.
I completely forgot to take an outfit picture but you've seen me in this before anyways...
I wore another Anna Scholz Black label number!
We had food, drink (a slush puppy in my case because I like drinks made for children!), looked at some crafts and listened to some music. Lovely day!

Sunday (didn't get dressed!)

Monday
I love this Asos Curve dress, it's lightweight and cute, so I wore it again!
I also wore a plastic ankle bracelet..... I've had it for so long that I can't remember where it's from!

Tuesday... Today... We've caught up!
Getting my arms out has felt so good recently. It's too hot to cover everything up! I ended up with what I would describe as a 'romantic' look today. I guess the dress is pretty lady-like, but the bun took it into period film territory. Love it, I felt beautiful today, didn't care what anyone else thought!
Dress - China via Ebay!
Earrings - Forever 21
Sandals - Ipanema

This happened today (BASTARDS!) which means that my Mod Cloth dress is nearly with me. Fingers crossed it fits... I have no idea what to expect if I'm honest, the sizing made no damn sense! I actually have a few new things to show you, but I've had to re-order 2 dresses that didn't fit, so I'm waiting for their replacements before blogging about them!

Friday ootd, preppy goes military

I have been wanting to wear this vintage Evans dress on the blog for so long (I feel odd referring to things from the early 90's as vintage, but that's cause I'm old!), and I've been waiting for it to be warm enough to wear this little jacket. Today I gave up waiting and just wore it with a coat over the top!
This is a fitted midi length shirt dress form back-in-the-day Evans. Classic!
The blazer is an old Primark one. Nice and stretchy. It may sound odd but I really wanted a tiny blazer. I often find blazers in my size to be too big and boxy (particularly if I wear them undone!), so i wanted something undersized because I think they look good with midi / maxi dresses! They actually have some nice stretch blazers in Primark at the moment. Nearly bough a nude one when I went to get some leggings yesterday (currently wearing!) but got a hold of myself before spending more money than I'd intended!
I guess I think of this as a military style dress because of all the buttons and the pockets. Not sure anyone else would describe it as military but it's the closest I get okay?!
If I was wearing this at home (not going into work) I'd wear heels, but until the summer holidays when my journey is easier I cannot cope with heels - I could wear comfy shoes and then change at work but I really really can't be bothered with that kind of thing!
I forget this morning to take pictures with the blazer done up, so I took some at work.
SPREAD 'EM PUNK!
Jacket - Primark (old)
Dress - Vintage Evans
Legging - primark
Shoes - New look

I love my new shoes boots, I missed out on them in the online New Look sale as they didn't have my size, but when i went to collect my order in-store I found them... last pair, proper size 7, real suede, £12! Happy Parsnip!
Old Dior earrings which I totally love. I have quite a few pairs of Dior earrings from my designer-love years. One side has keys on, the other has a star with a piercing & I still love them after all these years!
