ASOS curve review 2020 #9

I've been distracting myself from the dumpster fire that is our world right now, by ordering and then returning clothes. Everything feels so uncertain at the moment and so I'm trying not to keep anything that I don't REALLY like. No need to waste money, but a few treats now and again are keeping me sane during lockdown!
I got a size twenty fuckin' eight in this dress because I've tried Wednesday'd girl before, and knew they were too small on the bust..... It is ridiculous that this size doesn't cover my boobs. I'm officially giving up on this brand.
I was hoping that this was a classic case of asos using a thin woman to model plus size clothing and that I could wear it more fitted. Sadly not! Defo designed to look like you're playing dress up in your big sisters 80s prom dress! It's not possible to wrap it any tighter sadly and the body is cut on the bias so no chance of a waist.
It's proper taffeta, as advertised. Not for me but i'm sure someone more cutsie than me could pull it off!
My problems with this dress are as follows; it has more static than a ballon that's been rubbed on your head for 3 minutes. Also, the shape doesn't match the print.
I honestly quite liked the design of the dress and the fit, but the overall look just didn't feel right! If this was floral  or black, I would have kept it, despite the static!

You should buy this. Get your normal size or smaller. Generous so no need to size up ;)

I kept this one as I think it will be good for work in colder weather, with leggings or tights. The size 26 is a good size, fits nicely on my big ol' arms!

It fits nicely and covers my cleavage, but still looks quite smart and unusual. Plus.... RED satin. Yes please, thank you!

I kept this  (in a size 26) purely for a nice lock-down date-night outfit. love satin and love the colour and embroidery. It's not one for those who don't like their belly to be visible as you can see. I just like lounging around in satin.
Date night ;). Downsides = static. central seam at the front of the skirt ripped on first wear!

This is an odd one because I don't like the top if it' worn as you're supposed to wear it (tied at the back!), but I like it tied in the front. Or at least I think it's quite cute. What I adore about it is the stunning colour! Deep rich blue with a purple tone. So beautiful! Had to keep it just for the colour! I got the 24 and it's great.
The shoulders on this are stupidly wide. it's a real shame because the rest of the dress is quite lovely! This is the 26 but I sent it back because the shoulders span ruins it :(

Size 26. Preposterous dress! Lovely soft and thin fabric which would be perfect for summer (plus it has pockets and spaghetti straps), but it has a non stretch, thick synthetic fabric lining the whole thing and it's horrid! You can see that it's also stupidly tight on my bust for a size 26.
I can't even tell you how horrid this lining is! Is it taffeta?! Yuck!

Asos curve review 2020 #8

Greetings from lock down. I couldn't resit trying some bits when Asos had the money off sale items, so I went on a summer jumpsuit voyage!

This denim jumpsuit is non-stretch. Baffling to me that a fitted, catsuit style jumpsuit has been made without any give! This is the 26 and sadly it's too short on the body for me and so it's going back.

This is a 26.... quite different sizing from the one above huh?! The top is massive, the hips are not.

If I sized down to a 24 it would still be too big on the top, but it would then be too small on the hips!

On to the keepers! Well this is just so very cute isn't it? I wore it out in the sun today and it's awesome...
Pockets!

This is the 26 but the 24 would also probably have been fine as it's good sizing.

I love it. I now own a strapless bra for if I wanna go full off the shoulder, but I don't care much about bra straps showing with this sort of thing! You can actually wear it pulled up over the shoulders easily as the seam is elasticated, but it looks just as cute off the shoulder. Also with the tie on the bust it's very flexible.

Ahhh now this beauty! I tried the 26 on first (above) but I'd also ordered the 24 and tried that one after just because the under bust section wasn't very tight on me.

A hair brushing and a bit of make-up later.....

This is the 24. better! Bit sad that this doesn't have pockets but it's still beautiful!

It's a sort of oat / yellow / nude colour. Not sure stone quite hits the nail on the head in terms of the real colour! It's crinkle fabric which is always great for a bit of give, and perfect for this sort of hot weather.
It's a tiny bit sheer so needs nude or light undies (unless you are happy to flash your pants and bra just a teeny tiny bit!) and on most people it would be quite long. It bites my ankles as I'm 5'8" ish!

It doesn't hide my belly but somehow still manages to be very flattering. Love it! In terms of jumpsuit realness, this isn't very easy to get on and off, so if you get a bit panicked by getting clothes on and off then this isn't for you. the buttons are very fiddly and it's a struggle to get arms in and out, but for me it's worth the hassle for how nice it looks. Oddly enough, although the 26 was easier to get in and out of, it has slightly different loops for the buttons and was SO fiddly to unbutton and button up. Not good for those who have long nails! Ahh life..... pro's and cons!

Asos curve review 2020 #7

I've not bought much clothes-wise during the pandemic / lockdown. I've had a few splurges that have generally been returned without comment, because although I technically have TIME to blog, I haven't had the DESIRE to, for some unknown reason. Possibly because I'm sometimes not in a state to take photos as I've not even dressed, let alone sorted out my face and hair!

I have a few things to show you though!
This seems to have sold out, but thought I'd leave my review in, in case it pops up on ebay or something!

This maxi has been with me for a while. I got it for a bargain price in the sale and felt really summery and pretty in it.

This is a size 24 and it's lovely. Not too tight, not too loose. Decently weighty stretch fabric that falls nicely and isn't too static.

I was sad to return this dress.... I needed the size 22 and it's quite generous and is the sort of fabric that would loosen up and get baggy with wear. I returned it because the label that's sewn into the seam on the hip really ruins the shape! Oh well, it's an oddly warm fabric for a summery dress anyway. Would be cute with black tights in colder weather.

This maxi is lovely. Super soft and slinky!

Downsize unless you want it to look very oversized. I tried the 24 and ended up getting the size 20 as I wanted relaxed rather than baggy. Love that it has long sleeves as that's pretty rare in maxi dresses!

Also, let's bring back hair crimping!

Off Piste. Simply Be #3

It's so odd at the moment. I've come to terms with the idea that I might not be at my workplace for months on end and I'm wondering how this is going to effect me and my loved ones, longer term. I imagine everyone else is feeling pretty thrown by all this too.

I figured  I might as well do a little blog post while it's so quiet, and I got a couple of lovely bits from Simply Be so hey.... here they are!

So sticking with their excellent denim, This jacket is exactly what I've been after.
It's surprisingly hard to find a proper fitted cropped denim jacket in plus size. I've been after a waist length one for ages!
I wanted one that would sit just above my bum, but also nip me in at the waist, so I can wear it with dresses and retain a nice shape. I have an asos collared one, but it's sort of oversized so it doesn't fit to my body as well as this one.
It's stretch denim (yey!) and the sizing is good. this is a 26. Could have squeezed into a size 24 as the arms are generous enough, but I want to wear this over jumper dresses, so want a bit of wiggle room!
I like the lack of a collar, I think it makes it a bit more interesting. It's cute and I recommend it!

Organza Puff Sleeve Top

This top is the reason I made a Simply Be order, I was super excited about it. I was gutted when it arrived because the tee section is such horrid fabric! It is beyond me why they used a 70's feeling body rather than just a thick jersey! It looked cool (although in all honesty I suspect the neck would look better if it was a bit lower and less tight?!). I tried the 24 and it was a good relaxed size, but I couldn't live with the fabric. Sad face!

I just liked the look of this dress. It's fun and flirty (vom! but IT IS THOUGH!) and looks so cute on. I figured that I wouldn't be as short IRL as it is on the model and thankfully, it's a mini dress, but not stupidly short.
I wasn't expecting this size 26 to fit.... as soon as I felt the non-stretch fabric I assumed it wouldn't go over my head, but it did, and I like it! It's sort of shell like and has an elasticated section at the back of the waist.
I need some bright and cheerful things in my life right now!

Speaking of bright and cheerful, this one is not for the faint hearted! It feels like stretch cotton, which is very nice. Size 26 is a lovely fit and the arms are so generous thanks to the puff sleeves!
It's a real wrap dress, so you can adjust it to whatever is most comfortable. I suspect I will need to sew the ties on firmly because they feel a bit flimsy at the moment, but apart from that I really like this little dress.
Summer colours to wear around the flat while I twiddle my thumbs and dress as if I'm sitting in a cocktail bar with my girlfriends!

Puff Sleeve Wrap Skater Dress

This dress is nice if you like big sleeves (which I do, obviously!). Size 26, it's a super soft shell like fabric.... the static kind rather than the rougher stuff with no give. It doesn't seem to be horrifically static thankfully and it's comfy.
Again, it's short, but not ridiculously so! Faux wrap so it doesn't blow open.

Blue Acid Wash Shirt Dress with Elasticated Waist

Okay, let's be real here..... if this dress was longer it would be fucking perfect. But it's not. It's too short and it throws the proportions off because the body is quite long and has a relaxed fit that falls in a casual way. The skirt needs to be longer! I tried the 26 and it was a great fit, lovely thin non-stretch fabric. But it's too bloody short!

Joe Browns Summer Days Dress

Lovely midi dress in super soft (gentle) crinkle fabric. Size 26. I knew I'd love this one because it has a 90s, reality bites vibe about it!
lush capped sleeves, perfect length and relaxed fit. Simply Be stock the same dress in a number of different prints and I highly recommend it!
Until next time my lovelies, take care of yourselves and your loved ones. It can be hard to be patient during lock down but showing empathy and love for our fellow humans is what really matters now xx
